Basic Information:

Antonia Novello was born in Farjardo, Puerto Rico on August 23,1944 is a grown proficient women.But Antonia was born with an illness called Congential Megacolon also known as Hirschsprung’s disease. This disorder caused the inability of the nerves in the smooth muscle of the colon to move which made her believe she had to go to the restroom frequently.this 66 year-old women is still sharing her kindness as the vice president of Women and Children Health and Policy Affairs at Disney Children’s Hospital in Orlando, Florida.

Personal life:
When Antonia Novello was 8 years-old, her father died.
Then when she was 18 years old Antonia went into surgery to fix her problems. But the procedure gave her complications for the next two years. Then at age 20, Novello came to the United States
for treatment at the Mayo clinic, where she received an operation that determined the last of her complications.
Novello got hitched to a US Navy psychiatrist and flight surgeon named Joseph R. Novello. She was the sister-in-law of Saturday Night Live alumnus Don Novello creator of the character persona Father Guido Sarducci.
Novello recieved many awards, even the Legion of Merit Medalby the United States Secretary of State Colin Powell.
In 2006, she was a finalist for the Hispanic Business magazine Woman of the Year Award and was featured in the April 2006 issue.

Antonia graduated high school when she was 15. Novello’s mother was a high school teacher in math and science then became principal of her high school some time later. Her mother taught Antonia at a very young age all she knew about math and science. Since her mother was the principal of her school, she always made sure Novello had the best math and science teachers .
When she graduated high school she attended the University of Puerto Rico, at Rio Piedras. Antonia received her Bachelor of Science degree at Rio Piedras in 1965. Novello then achieved her Doctor of medicine degree from the University of Puerto Rico at San Juan in 1970.

Contribution to society:

Dr. Novello joined the national institutes of health in Bethesda, Maryland in 1979. In the next 12 years she built her reputation from project officer in the Institute of Child Health and Human Development. Her studies on AIDS caught much attention, especially from the White House.
President George Bush elected Antonia Novello to become Surgeon General of the United States.

Why I chose Antonia Novello:

I chose Antonia Novello because se has been through a lot as a child, as well as many others in the world.Although she had problems she tried her hardest in school. Graduated before her classmates as well at a young age. She also did some research that got her noticed by the president.- now thats cool!
Also she got to become the first Latin-American Surgeon General of the United States.
