Watch a VIDEO of him:

Hello! My name is Astrid Mayorga.

I have selected Jose Jose to highlight as a great role model for Hispanic Heritage Month.

Please read about Jose Romulo Sosa Ortiz, well known as Jose Jose, below and don’t forget to take the quiz at the end!

Basic Information: Jose was born on February 17, 1948. He was born and raised in Mexico City, Azcapotzalco.

He is currently 62 years old. His vocal tones, music skills, and romantic songs made him famous.

Personal Life: Jose's father left his family when he was 15 years old. After his father abandoned them, Jose began

to drink and eventually dealt with alcoholism. His mother, Margarita Ortiz, was a classical pianist and his father,

Jose Sosa Esquivel, was a operatic singer. Music ran through his veins. Jose suffered from pneumonia, in 1972, and

one of his lungs was discovered damaged. Recently, in 2001, Jose suffered from emphysema where he, not only lost

his voice, but also his career.

Education: In his teen years, Jose worked hard to become a famous singer. Jose joined a band called "Los PEG."

He later signed a contract with RCA victor making his way up into fame.

Contribution to Society: Jose has inspired many latin pop artists and through his song has had a deep connection

with his fans. His romantic ballads has shown a different side of love. He has had a lot of health problems but has

shown the world that we all have flaws and can defeat them. After wanting to take his life and living in a taxi, Jose went

to rehab and showed his strength by overcoming his problem and never drinking again. This showed his fans his

optimistic side and encourages those who have been through the same situation.

Why I chose Jose Jose: Jose is a talented singer and I love listening to his romantic songs. Also, he taught me that

everyone has problems but we need to stay strong. He is important to Hispanic community because he has never

given up after going through difficult times.
