Hello! My name is Crystal Campos. I have selected Cantinflas to highlight as a great role model for Hispanic Heritage Month. Please read about him below and don’t forget to take the quiz at the end!

Basic Information:
Cantinflas was born on August 12, 1911 in México City. He died on April 20, 1993 of lung cancer. Many people went to his funeral. It was a national event that lasted 3 days. Even the United States Senate had a moment of silence for him.

Personal Life:
Moreno was born six of twelve children. He was married to Valentina Ivanova Zobareff who was Russian. Moreno had an adopted son, Mario Arturo Moreno Ivanova.

Education:
Moreno tried many other careers before becoming a big star like medical and boxing. He was in the military first and then a professional boxer. He tried many years to become a hit star, but it wasn’t until shooting “Ahi Esta el Detalle” that phrase gave Moreno the name Cantinflas and his fame. He also filmed a movie in Hollywood, “Around the World in 80 Days” in 1956. He earned a Golden Globe.

Contribution to Society:

Moreno was also involved in México’s dangerous politics. He was constantly helping others in charity especially helping children. He also donated to orphanages and also to Roman Catholic Church, which made him a hero to México.

Why I chose Cantinflas:
I chose this person because he is very famous in México and also in Spain. When I read his biography it interested me how he tried a career in medicine before becoming a big star. He also helped out a lot of people.
